On 19 May 2025, the Stefánia Palace hosted a closed-door meeting between the leadership of the Hungarian Atlantic Council, invited experts, Boris Ruge, NATO Deputy Secretary General, and István Balogh, Hungary’s Permanent Representative to NATO.
The meeting featured a comprehensive exchange on key security issues affecting the Euro-Atlantic region. Discussions focused on the current developments in the war in Ukraine, the challenges arising from the Middle East, and the evolving global security environment. Particular attention was given to NATO’s upcoming summit and Hungary’s role within the Alliance.
The meeting provided an important opportunity to align international and national security perspectives and to deepen transatlantic cooperation in an increasingly complex geopolitical context.
During the exchange, Boris Ruge praised Hungary’s active contribution to NATO and described the country as “an important and significant Ally.” He emphasized that Hungary’s efforts are of particular value in strengthening collective defence and regional security.
The Hungarian Atlantic Council remains committed to open dialogue and active engagement within the framework of NATO, and will continue to support the strengthening of transatlantic relations.
