How the COVID-19 Pandemic Affected Crime Trends – An Overview of Europol’s November 11, 2020 Report

The COVID-19 pandemic is primarily a global health crisis, but in addition to its impact on public health, it has had significant and lasting effects on trends related to organized crime and terrorism in Europe. Since March 2020, following the implementation of the first European restrictions, Europol has been closely monitoring the effects of the pandemic on crime rates.

In this analysis, we summarize the findings of the Europol report that evaluates the first eight months of the COVID-19 pandemic, highlighting key lessons and trends.
