MIAT–IRI Joint Training on Security Policy – Event Summary

On May 10, 2024, the Hungarian Youth Atlantic Council (MIAT), in cooperation with the International Republican Institute (IRI), organized a joint training at the European Youth Centre Budapest. The aim of the event was to provide a security policy-themed training specifically for young women, with a total of 20 participants from the V4 countries and Romania.

Following the opening session, participants took part in a three-hour “wargaming” simulation led by András Bartók, which introduced them to the complexities of strategic decision-making in international crisis scenarios.

This was followed by a panel discussion featuring senior diplomats from the Finnish and Swedish embassies, who spoke about their countries’ roles in NATO and shared career advice and personal insights with the participants.

The third part of the program focused on the challenges of disinformation and its implications for security policy. This segment also included a comprehensive overview of the current geopolitical situation in the Black Sea region.

To close the day, a female leader from IRI led an interactive discussion with the participants about the unique challenges faced by young women in the field of international relations and public service.

The day concluded with a networking dinner, during which participants and organizers reflected on the day’s experiences and shared takeaways.
