Hungarian Youth Atlantic Council (MIAT)

The Hungarian Youth Atlantic Council (MIAT) was established in 1995 as the youth section of the Hungarian Atlantic Council (MAT). It was reorganized in 2018 and became a foundation in 2024 (MIAT Foundation).

The MIAT Foundation is governed by a five-member board of trustees, composed of the following members: István Gyarmati (Chair), Á. Félix Debrenti (Trustee), Judit Lilla Kanizsai (Trustee), Norbert Szépvölgyi (Trustee), Péter Wagner (Trustee). The Foundation’s Director General is: Márk Joszipovics Fodor.

MIAT considers its core mission to be informing high school and university students as well as young professionals. It actively participates in promoting the ideals of Atlanticism and international cooperation, in alignment with youth cooperation initiatives under the Atlantic Treaty Association (ATA), particularly through the Youth Atlantic Treaty Association (YATA).

From its inception, the Hungarian Youth Atlantic Council (MIAT) set out to support Hungary’s European integration by promoting traditional European values and encouraging a progressive Hungarian role both within the region and the broader Euro-Atlantic community. To this end, MIAT members have been dedicated organizers and active participants in numerous national and international initiatives, which have contributed to the development of MIAT’s extensive international network.

The Foundation remains committed to providing its members with opportunities to participate in domestic and international professional programs, which offer unique platforms for professional development and international networking.

Even during their university studies, MIAT members place strong emphasis on understanding the ideological, historical, organizational, cultural, economic, political, and military aspects of Euro-Atlantic integration. This comprehensive foundation serves as the basis for MIAT’s core pillars of activity, which include the following:
