The Suspension of Russia’s NATO Mission and Its Expected Consequences

On October 18, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced that Russia would suspend its diplomatic mission to NATO. The immediate background to this decision was NATO’s announcement on October 6 that, effective November 1, it would revoke the accreditation of eight Russian diplomats and limit the size of Russia’s NATO delegation to ten members.
