The Terror Threat to the European Union Between 2000 and 2019 – Reflected in the Numbers

Our institute last published a statistical analysis of terror threats covering a longer time period in 2012, focusing on the eight years between 2004 and 2011. At that time, we used data from the Worldwide Incident Tracking System (WITS), the online database established by the U.S. National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC), to present a two-part overview of global terror threat trends.

This year, we have decided to once again compile a relatively detailed, data-driven analysis of terror threats—this time covering the years 2000 to 2019. The final summary of this assessment is scheduled for release to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
