At the World Order Analysis event hosted by Válasz Online, veteran top diplomat Dr. István Gyarmati, Secretary General of the Hungarian Atlantic Council, and Russia expert Dr. András Rácz gave lectures on the Russia–Ukraine war to an audience of more than 600 people.
During the evening, the experts explained the historical and geopolitical background of the Ukrainian–Russian conflict, analyzed the feasibility of Ukraine’s current strategic objectives, and outlined possible scenarios that could lead to a successful ceasefire—among them the tools of peace enforcement and NATO’s role and available options. They thoroughly examined Ukraine’s bilateral relations with the United States and the European Union, including developments in financial and military support, as well as the security guarantees—potentially from NATO—that could serve as the foundation of a lasting ceasefire.
They also discussed Russia’s interests, capabilities, willingness, and unique negotiation dynamics in the context of the war. The actions of the Trump administration and their possible motivations were likewise addressed, along with the significance of various NATO member states—including Hungary—in the path toward ending the conflict. Taking into account shifts in transatlantic relations, the issue of developing European defense autonomy remains, according to the experts, a central topic going forward.
